Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration of life and death that connects family members and allows many to grow closer with their loved ones. NEHMA highlights this tradition by creating a large ofrenda (offering table) in the lobby of the museum. On display are calaveras (decorated skulls), photos, food, candles, and marigold flowers to represent different kinds of ofrendas. People are welcome to dedicate a small portion of that ofrenda to someone they lost by writing their name on the ofrenda wall. Cybersecurity Awareness Month - Scavenger Hunt

Come learn how to "Secure your World"!
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is “Secure Our World.” There are four key areas that individuals can focus on to "Secure Their World": 1) Enable Multifactor Authentication, 2) Use a Password Manager, 3) Apply Patches, and 4) Activate "Find My Device."
We will have four tables across campus, each focused on one of these security priorities. Since Halloween is the next day, we’ve chosen the theme: “Don’t Get Tricked, Get a Treat! – Secure Your World.” Each table will provide treats along with information on one of the four priorities.
Scavenger hunt! participants will collect stamps at each table after learning about the security tip. Those who collect all four stamps can head to Old Main to claim a prize!

Debussy: String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10
Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10, a cornerstone of the chamber music repertoire, will close our October concert with its impressionistic textures and vivid harmonic language. This quartet, with its shimmering colors and dynamic interplay, provides a striking contrast to the other works on the program, capturing the visceral beauty and emotional depth that Debussy is renowned for.
Night Fire by Akshaya Tucker
"Night Fire," a work for string quartet and tenor by Akshaya Tucker, was also written for the Fry Street Quartet and premiered last spring in the NOVA series in Salt Lake City. Another work created in partnership with GLFCAM’s "Composing Earth" project, Tucker’s composition, with its vivid textures and poignant text by Wren Brian, confronts us with the terror of escaping a wildfire. The FSQ is joined by tenor Thomas Glenn for this performance.
Bartók: Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano
Bartók’s Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano, a work of intense energy and rhythmic drive, showcases the composer’s deep connection to the folk traditions of Eastern Europe. Violinist Robert Waters and pianist Jason Hardink will bring this electrifying piece to life, capturing the fiery spirit and intricate dialogues between the two instruments.

We are heading down south to the amazing red rock and blue waters of Lake Powell to explore some of its many side canyons in sea kayaks. We will pack our kayaks with our gear and spend two nights camping on the lake. Participants must be able to swim and comfortable in open water. Trip cost includes sales tax, food, transportation, kayak equipment, tent, sleeping bag, pad and student leadership.
Legacy of Val Day of Service: Whittier Community Center Carnival

Help us honor the legacy of Val Christensen by assisting at the oldest community Halloween carnival in the valley! We will be in charge of a glow stick dance area at the Whittier Community Center's annual free carnival for kids. Volunteers in the morning can help set up the stage, and volunteers in the afternoon will hand out glow sticks, manage music, and dance with kids as they come and go from the stage. Volunteers are not required to attend the entire Carnival, shifts available in 1hr-3hr blocks. Register through AggiePulse, link provided.

Wuda Ogwa Planting Days

Join the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation for a volunteer day, planting willows, cottonwoods, dogwoods, currants, and other native plants at the Wuda Ogwa restoration site.

Five-Slide Friday is an informal get together over lunch on (some) Fridays where faculty and students can present about their education, field of study, work experience, academic research, ASC project, new favoriate data tool, etc. and answer questions. The objective is to help ease the friction that naturally occurs in interdisciplinary settings while helping both faculty and students learn and retool. Bring your lunch and, if you're presenting, remember that you can't prepare more than five slides!

Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Legacy of Val Day of Service: Planting Day at Wuda Ogwa

Join us as we honor the legacy of Val R Christensen and support the Northwestern Band of Shoshone (NWB) in their efforts to restore the ecosystem at Wuda Ogwa (located outside of Preston, ID). We will be planting native plants throughout the property formerly known as the Bear River Massacre Site.
Let us know in the registration form if you'd like a spot in our minibus (only 14 spots available). Lunch will be provided by the NWB. We have some work gloves to lend out. Feel free to bring a digging tool (such as a shovel or a hand auger) if you have them.
After you register, we will send you one more form to fill out that gives information to the NWB.

Day of the Dead Ofrenda at NEHMA

Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration of life and death that connects family members and allows many to grow closer with their loved ones. NEHMA highlights this tradition by creating a large ofrenda (offering table) in the lobby of the museum. On display are calaveras (decorated skulls), photos, food, candles, and marigold flowers to represent different kinds of ofrendas. People are welcome to dedicate a small portion of that ofrenda to someone they lost by writing their name on the ofrenda wall. Come visit the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art and our Día de Los Muertos ofrenda!
Lake Powell Kayaking
Recreation
We are heading down south to the amazing red rock and blue waters of Lake Powell to explore some of its many side canyons in sea kayaks. We will pack our kayaks with our gear and spend two nights camping on the lake. Participants must be able to swim and comfortable in open water. Trip cost includes sales tax, food, transportation, kayak equipment, tent, sleeping bag, pad and student leadership.
