The Perception of Pictures
Panel Discussion/Presentation
Dr. Martin Banks, from the University of California at Berkeley, will discuss perceptual basis of natural-looking pictures. In this presentation, he will examine perceived spatial distortions in wide-angle pictures and perceived depth in pictures taken with different focal lengths. "Understanding the perceptual basis of these guidelines provides insight into how to construct photographs, perspective paintings, and computer-graphic images for more effective visual communication." "Uncharted Waters: Creating Climate Capacity" Climate change is an unprecedented challenge that is currently threatening natural and human systems through higher temperatures, increased droughts, and rising ocean waters. Adapting to these threats requires robust science-policy integration and a well-designed climate services system, both built on ensuring the usability of scientific information. In this talk I will share my mixed methods approach to gain insights directly from local planners globally. Synthesizing information from 49 countries informs global capacity building through the design of guidance materials, global engagement programs, and climate service provision.
Lifeguard Review Course

10-hour course designed to review knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Holiday side dishes are just as important as the main dish, but they often lack fruits and vegetables to have a balanced meal. Join us for a cooking demo with Registered Dietitian, Brooke Lister and learn how to make two side dishes that will help you add color and texture to your meal by using vibrant, in season produce! Samples of the recipes will be available while supplies last and are provided by event sponsor, Dining Services. The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer.
What is an Engineer's Ring Ceremony?
The Ring Ceremony is the public induction of candidates into the Order of the Engineer, during which the engineer candidates formally accept the Obligation of an Engineer and receive a stainless steel ring to be worn as a symbol on the small finger of the working hand.
What is the "Obligation of an Engineer"?
The Obligation is the formal statement of an engineer's responsibilities to the public and to the profession. The obligation is publicly accepted by an engineer during induction at a Ring Ceremony.

"Donate a meal from your meal plan" Fundraiser
Fundraiser
Twice a year USU Dining Services and the Christensen Office of Social Action & Sustainability team up to raise money for local food pantries. Every fall, we ask Aggies with meal plans to donate one meal from their cards. The meal is translated into dollars, and then Dining Services donates that dollar amount to the Cache Community Food Pantry. The CCFP donates 2,000lbs of food to our campus SNAC pantry every week, and we want to give back in this small (or big!) way. Stop by our booth at the entrances of the Marketplace (11am-1pm) or the Junction (5-7pm) to donate a meal from your plan and know that you're helping a community resource in time for the holiday season!

Dr. Aaron Ahern, PhD and Dr. Michael Foster, PhD, CRC from the Department of Veteran Affairs in collaboration with U.S. Army LTC (Retired) Andy Allen, Director of USU's Veterans Resource Office, will host a 90 minute presentation and discussion titled, "Working With Student Veterans 101." The aim of the presentation is to help faculty and staff better understand the student veteran experience thus empowering them to be more successful mentors and advisors.
