This includes how human well-being is supported by nature, as represented by the importance of ecosystem services or, similarly, human and ecological meanings and services. Additionally, my current research focuses on perceptions of relevant drivers of change within the context of human-nature relationships. That is, how are people’s connection to some natural resource of interest potentially threatened or enhanced by a diverse range of influential factors, including management actions, climate change, land use change, and tradeoffs among differing human-nature relationships?

Guerrilla Grrrl Now! An exhibition of political posters

Arts/Entertainment

Guerrilla Grrrl Now! is an exhibition of political posters by the anonymous art collective Guerrilla Girls (active since 1985) placed alongside contemporary work by USU Art + Design students and interactive spaces for viewer responses. The Guerrilla Girl posters were selected from USU’s Special Collections and Archives, which is currently the only institution to house a complete Guerrilla Girls portfolio (1985-2023) IN THE WORLD! The Guerrilla Girls, who call themselves the “conscience of the art world,” use brazen visuals, confrontational headlines, and undeniable statistics to illuminate gender, racial, and ethnic discrimination in cultural institutions. The issues addressed in their work, including reproductive rights, sexual assault and abuse, LGBTQIA+ rights, and the gender pay gap, remain incredibly relevant in our lives today. Guerrilla Grrrl Now! loudly proclaims that the fight isn’t over, and by using our voices and our art to activate awareness on campus, in Cache Valley, and in Utah, we continue the feminist fight against discrimination on all fronts.

Sagebrush People Reading Group

Meeting

Student discussion group open to anyone who considers themselves remotely connected to sagebrush systems.

Within the QNCR (or likely even broader), we have a lot of research projects across the West that are directly or indirectly related to sagebrush, and this presents a fantastic opportunity for us at USU to periodically get together and discuss topics we’re interested in from our own perspectives on the natural resources spectrum.

We can cover many aspects of sagebrush landscapes – plant-soil interactions, human recreation, sagebrush restoration, mammals, invertebrates, etc.—so don’t hesitate to suggest any ideas! It can also be daunting to lead a discussion by yourself, so feel free to partner up with one or two others if you would like to lead the discussion on your chosen topic.

This is the last meeting of the semester; if we need to adjust due to finals/leaving for holiday, we can.
