Bear River Land Conservancy is seeking community volunteers of all ages that want to help us conduct our annual monitoring of Ute Ladies’ Tresses. Monitoring events will occur on Friday evenings beginning July 28th through early September. Each Friday, we will meet at 6 p.m. at ~5400 W, 1800 S in Mendon. Please wear long sleeve shirts, pants, and sturdy shoes. Ute Ladies’ Tresses are a threatened perennial flowering orchid found in open wetland and riparian micro-habitats, are mostly pollinated by bumblebees, and are dependent on mycorrhizal fungi. As part of our efforts to manage Mendon Meadows Preserve and to protect this rare orchid, Bear River Land Conservancy conducts annual monitoring and established a pollinator garden in 2022. Utah Public Radio Summer Garden Party with Temple Grandin

Join Utah Public Radio for a summer garden party at Bruce Bugbee and Diana West’s historic Crockett home. The evening will include a catered dinner, live music, art activities, tours of the house and gardens, and a very special guest – author, academic, and activist Temple Grandin. Each ticket purchase includes a copy of Temple Grandin’s book “Visual Thinking: The Hidden Gifts of People Who Think in Pictures, Patterns, and Abstractions,” which you can get signed that evening. CIDI Workshop - Editing 2+ Courses in one Place with Canvas Blueprints

Canvas allows a teacher to create a "blueprint" course, where updates can be made just once and then synced to several associated courses. This can greatly ease the management of multiple versions of the same class. This workshop shows how to use and effectively manage blueprint courses.

In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address what they are capable of and the various ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. We'll discuss syllabus language, AI detection tools, and ways to encourage students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and demonstrate their own capabilities. We'll also share some ideas and examples of AI as a teaching tool.

The keynote speaker session, Dr. Lindsay Masland, will be available via Aggiecast. Our faculty committee has selected the theme of “The Activities, Roles, and Relationships of Successful College Students”. Presentations are faculty-submitted, faculty-led, and focused on teaching innovations that have worked well right here at USU. Introduction to Social Annotation with Hypothes.is

This session will be an introduction to using Hypothesis and social annotation in your courses. Jessica from the Hypothesis team will share how teachers are using annotation-powered reading to help students develop foundational academic skills like deep reading and persuasive writing. In addition to sharing pedagogical best practices for social annotation, she will demonstrate how Hypothesis is used with course readings in Canvas. The public is invited to come to the east side of the Quad at 8:15 p.m. to hold a blue luminary lantern and to line up along the sidewalk as the new students walk to the Quad. USU's Annual Day on the Quad

Day On The Quad is the biggest campus community gathering in the fall. Over 300 community and campus groups attend to support USU students and highlight the services of their organizations. It is open to the entire campus community. This event hosts over 4,000 student attendees each year. It is free to attend and usually involves loads of information and swag.
