The Sexual Assault and Anti-Violence Information (SAAVI) Office is partnering with Black Kat Ink Studio to host their first ever tattoo fundraiser. Receive one of several select tattoo designs from Black Kat Ink on Wednesday, January 11th and a portion of proceeds will be donated to the SAAVI survivor fund. This fund is used to cover any hardship a survivor of interpersonal violence may face. Walk-in only. Cash only. No design exceptions.

Since its inception just ten years ago, Fox Pest Control has grown to 31 offices in 15 states, employing over 1,000 team members, and generating $120 million in revenue. Fox is the 13th largest pest control company in the country, and has been recognized by INC 5000 two years in a row as one of the fastest growing companies in America. Mike Romney started a career in door to door sales with Eclipse Marketing in 2000. He sold pest control for nine summers in a row across 21 states, amassing an impressive 7,451 accounts and producing over $4 million in revenue.
Bryant White received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering from Utah State University and found summer sales to be a profitable way to support his family. He generated two and a half million dollars in revenue before transitioning his career to leadership and entrepreneurship. In 2012, Bryant joined with Mike to create Fox Pest Control. Mike and Bryant attribute Fox’s phenomenal growth to the emphasis on a culture of teaching leadership and personal development principles to all team members.

Sara J. Winston is an artist based in the Hudson Valley region of New York, USA. She works with photographs, text, and the book form to describe and respond to chronic illness and its ongoing impact on her body, mind, family, and memory. Sara is the Photography Program Coordinator at Bard College; on the faculty of the Penumbra Foundation Long Term Photobook Program; and a contributor to Lenscratch. She has projects forthcoming with Molto Molto (Brighton, UK) and Push Pull Editions (Corvallis, OR).

Utah’s Research on Capitol Hill is an annual celebration of undergraduate research held in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. Organized by USU and the University of Utah, it features the state’s two public research universities’ students and their research projects. Students of all disciplines from around the state share the results of their investigations with legislators.

Our Jan. 20 speaker is USU statistician Brennan Bean, who presents "Predicting Snowmageddon: Using Data Science to Design Against Disaster" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU Logan campus. Dr. Bean will speak for about half an hour and then invite questions from the audience. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments and hands-on STEM learning activities provided by student and community groups in the ESLC atrium. Jan. 20, 2023 Talk Description: Lots of snow is great for skiers and thirsty reservoirs, but can present a challenge to building designers. How do you build buildings that will safely withstand the weight of snow loads? By collecting and analyzing LOTS of data, and living with a little uncertainty, says USU statistician Brennan Bean, who will discuss the power of data science in a changing climate.

Fry Street Quartet in Recital with Brant Bayless

Continuing the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Fry Street Quartet’s residency at USU, the FSQ presents a program of works by Benjamin Britten, Jessie Montgomery, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Montgomery’s Source Code, written in 2013, is a one-movement work that centers on a melody derived from the syntax of black spirituals. Benjamin Britten’s first string quartet was written during the composer’s time in America, and is considered one of the most important works of that period. The program concludes with Mozart’s towering Viola Quintet in G minor, featuring Utah Symphony Principal Viola Brant Bayless, a longtime collaborator with the FSQ.

Marissa Barlow studied entrepreneurship at Utah State University and strategy at BYU. She is an entrepreneur, and co-founder of the swimsuit company, Nani Swimwear. At age 15, while struggling to find a fun yet appropriate swimsuit for a family vacation, Marissa decided to start a company that provided quality, modest, and fashion-forward swimsuits. The Mission of Nani Swimwear is to empower women everywhere to love their bodies, seek adventure, and live a “Nani” life.

The unique and exciting twist of this jury is that the program will not be known to the performers until the event begins! The individual and ensemble selections will all be announced to guests and performers alike at 7pm on Saturday, 1/28/22.
