Ecology Center Seminar Series
Lecture/Readings
The USU Ecology Center will host Dr. William Anderegg from the University of Utah January 17th & 18th (4pm-5pm) for the Ecology Center Seminar Series in Life Sciences Building (LSB) Room 133.
Dr. Armatas on his research:
My research centers around the intersection of ecosystems and climate change. In particular, I strive to understand the future of Earth’s forests in a changing climate. Massive mortality events of many tree species in the last decade prompt concerns that drought, insects, and wildfire may devastate forests in the coming decades. I study how drought and climate change affect forest ecosystems, including tree physiology, species interactions, carbon cycling, and biosphere-atmosphere feedbacks. This research spans a broad array of spatial scales from xylem cells to ecosystems and seeks to gain a better mechanistic understanding of how climate change will affect forests around the world.

Once we arrive at the Wayne Estes Center, we will play a 2-minute video highlighting the week’s significance. After the video, we will hear from USU Athletics leadership, USU President, and student leadership on the importance of MLK week at USU (15 to 25 minutes long). We will then encourage people to attend the Aggie Men’s Basketball game.

Soprano Michelle Broadbent Hatch, a seasoned performer across four continents, holds performance degrees from Utah State University and Brigham Young University. Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Opera Performance at Arizona State University, she has been a long-time student of Darrell Babidge from the Juilliard School. Hatch also studied with baritone Gordon Hawkins at Arizona State University, Oberlin Conservatory in Italy, and with Daniel Ferro from the Juilliard School. In addition to numerous guest recitalist appearances, she has taken on leading roles in various operas, including Moore’s "The Ballad of Baby Doe," Menotti’s "The Old Maid and the Thief," Vaughan Williams’ "Riders to the Sea," de Falla’s "La Vida Breve," Smetana’s "The Bartered Bride," and the title role in Puccini’s "Suor Angelica."
