Is there a Future for Civil Discourse in Politics?

Panel Discussion/Presentation

Engaging in conversations across political divides helps us find common ground and moves our country toward a stronger democracy. In this workshop, Utah State Representative Dan Johnson (Republican) and Patrick Belmont (2022 Democratic Candidate) will share their personal experiences engaging in respectful discussion of issues to find mutual understanding and make informed decisions for the greater good. This workshop is co-sponsored by the USU Heravi Peace Institute and the Center for Community Engagement.

Negotiating Waiting in Britain: Indian Travelling Ayahs at the Heart of the Empire

Lecture/Readings

Dr. Arunima Datta (University of North Texas) will present a Tanner Talk on her new book, Waiting on Empire: A History of Indian Travelling Ayahs in Britain. Dr. Datta is an award-winning scholar of British Empire and Asian (South and Southeast Asian) history. In her research and teaching, she constantly explores the everyday experiences of labor migrants within the context of the British Empire.
