Front & Center Webinar: Balancing Support and Boundaries with Students

In this session we will cover the challenging task of how to be a caring supporter of students while setting healthy boundaries and attending to your own self-care. We will do exercises to increase intentionality and consistency in boundary setting; consider our verbal and nonverbal boundary cue behaviors; play a Kahoot game to see if we’re merging into the therapist lane; do active script work for responding to struggling students; and consider personal “policies” for maximizing student support and healthy boundary setting. We will also discuss how to refer to which resources when small and big mental health issues arise.

Lunch & Learn - Digestive Health; Benefits of a Healthy Gut and How to Improve

USU Be Well and Registered Dietitian, Brooke Lister, present a workshop on digestive health. A healthy gut promotes overall well-being in many different areas of health. The food we eat significantly impacts the balance of bacteria in our gut which leads to either good or bad gut health. In this presentation, we will discuss the benefits of why having a healthy gut is important. We will also talk about dietary changes that can be made to increase the number of good bacteria in your gut! *Presentation will be recorded. CHaSS Book Proposal Charrette

In the Fall, CHaSS Research hosted a workshop with Darrin Pratt, Director of the University of Colorado Press. Pratt shared best practices for academic press book proposals. To follow up on the advice provided during this workshop, we will be offering a charrette - a hands-on, collaborative peer review - specifically focused on in-progress book proposals. Who: Participation in the charrette is by application and is limited to 12 CHaSS faculty (at any rank or campus), including lecturers and post-docs. Preference, however, will be given to early career scholars and those soon seeking promotion. Workshop format: Faculty will be split into small groups based upon their interests and backgrounds. Each faculty member will share their book proposal (in the stage or format that it’s in) prior to the workshop with their group to receive targeted feedback. Participants will each review 1 or 2 book proposals. The workshop will also include an overview of “best practices” for book proposals and summary remarks.
