Science Unwrapped: Predicting Snowmageddon

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the public outreach program of USU's College of Science. Admission is free.

Our Jan. 20 speaker is USU statistician Brennan Bean, who presents "Predicting Snowmageddon: Using Data Science to Design Against Disaster" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU Logan campus. Dr. Bean will speak for about half an hour and then invite questions from the audience. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments and hands-on STEM learning activities provided by student and community groups in the ESLC atrium. For more information, including directions and parking, visit usu.edu/science/unwrapped.

Jan. 20, 2023 Talk Description: Lots of snow is great for skiers and thirsty reservoirs, but can present a challenge to building designers. How do you build buildings that will safely withstand the weight of snow loads? By collecting and analyzing LOTS of data, and living with a little uncertainty, says USU statistician Brennan Bean, who will discuss the power of data science in a changing climate.
