Alumni Lunch Series Ernesto Lopez

The Alumni Lunch Series is now CHaSS Trailheads, but our events will continue to provide meaningful opportunities for current students to connect with our amazing alumni. All USU students, faculty, staff, and alumni are welcome to attend!

Join us on November 5 for a discussion with Ernesto Lopez (BA SPAN ’04, MS ITLS ‘10), Instructional Designer for USU Extension’s Online Programs Initiative.

Ernesto has a enjoyed a varied career that has always demonstrated his commitment to community. He spent more than a decade with Bear River Head Start before working to train domestic and international franchise owners. But what made him pivot to instructional design and how did he find himself as the first Hispanic and first immigrant to serve on the Logan City Council? Come meet Ernesto and learn how to change your view without losing your perspective.

Ernesto’s presentation will be held in MAIN 115 at 1:30pm on Friday, November 5.

The Afghanistan Crisis: The Challenges of Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding

Panel Discussion/Presentation

The US experience in Afghanistan raises important questions about the meaning of peacekeeping and peacebuilding, and the ability of the US to engage in either one. What should global visions of peacekeeping be? Is it even possible to move from peacekeeping to peacebuilding? Our aim with this panel is to promote a campus-wide discussion on the meanings of peacebuilding and peacekeeping by bringing together practitioners and academics. Speakers include Dr. Danielle Ross, Ms. Somaye Sarvarzade, and Brig-Gen Tyler Smith. Sponsored by the Global Peacebuilding Certificate program and the Tanner Humanities program.

Alumni Lunch Series - Andrew Soelberg

Panel Discussion/Presentation

The CHaSS Alumni Lunch Series has gone online! Join us for Digital Take-Out as we discuss careers with esteemed alumni. Listen in and participate by asking questions during the live event on Zoom.

On Friday, November 12, we'll feature Logan City Police Officer, Andrew Soelberg (BS Interdisciplinary Studies '16). During his eleven years with the Logan City Police Department, Officer Soelberg has investigated major crimes including fraud and forgery, burglaries, aggravated assaults, child exploitation and abuse, and several homicides. His roles have included working as a patrol officer, bicycle officer, accident reconstructionist, major crimes investigator, internet crimes against children agent, and SWAT operator. Having recently returned to the patrol division, he currently heads the accident reconstruction team.

CHaSS Trailheads: Nelda Ault-Dyslin (AMER '05), Community Service Coordinator & CRIC Founder

Panel Discussion/Presentation

On Friday, November 19, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will host an alumni presentation with Nelda Ault-Dyslin, the current Community Service Coordinator for Utah State University's Val R. Christensen Service Center and founder of the Cache Refugee and Immigrant Connection.

An avid volunteer, Nelda has given her time to several non-profits including HELP International in El Salvador and the Bowling Green International Center, a resettlement center founded to serve Bosnian refugees. Students interested in serving communities in need will want to hear Nelda detail her experiences making a big difference on a local level. Join us for an engaging conversation and learn how you can become a more involved member of the USU community. Open to all students, faculty, and staff!
