Blood Battle with the American Red Cross

There is an ongoing blood shortage in the United States right now, due to natural disasters and the pandemic. Utah State and Weber State are going head to head in the name of addressing the blood shortage during Blood Battle 2022. Each school has a goal of collecting 500 units of blood! American Red Cross teams will be on hand from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day for four days so that donors can step up and help community members they may never meet. Appointments are recommended this year, but walk-ins will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. Go to redcrossblood.org and type ZIP code 84322 or the sponsor code BLEEDBLUE in the search box in the top right corner to make an appointment. Many volunteers are also needed to staff the check-in and snack tables. Sign up for a shift or two by logging into USU's service database, found at usu.givepulse.com.

CARE Office Open House

The CARE office works to help students facing challenges with: Accessing healthcare Connecting with a mental health provider and other mental health resources Financial concerns Addressing difficulties with access to food or other necessities and Identifying and connecting with academic supports, such as academic accommodations They will be hosting their open house on September 7th from 2-4:30pm. Visit TSC 305 to learn more about the CARE office, enter their giveaway, and enjoy treats.
Launch Your Engineering Career Fall Kick-Off
Special Event
The Launch Your Engineering Career (LYEC) is hosting a keynote address by Dr. Rebecca Dupaix, “Life’s Best Adventures Happen When You’re Detoured”. Refreshments will be served. Enter a raffle to win a Nintendo Switch Lite, one of two $50 Visa gift cards, or College of Engineering Swag. Aggie Ice Cream vouchers will be given to the first 100 people.
Rebecca Dupaix is a Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Ohio State University. She received her BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University in 1998 and MS and PhD degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000 and 2003, respectively. Her research focuses on the mechanical behavior of polymers and soft biological tissues. She received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation in 2008 for her work to improve polymer manufacturing processes across multiple length scales. Her soft tissue work includes applications ranging from injury biomechanics to neural prosthesis design. Her success in the classroom has resulted in several teaching awards, most recently the Ohio State University Alumni Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2021. She enjoys teaching classes in statics, mechanics of materials, applied finite element analysis, and continuum mechanics.

HSB Student Leadership Meeting

All HSB club advisors and presidents will be gathered to discuss club support resources, receive training, event calendaring, and how to use the new MyUSU student portals. A guest speaker will be invited, and breakfast provided (Breakfast Burritos).
Social Action Fair: Immigration & Refugees

This Social Action Fair will feature representatives from community organizations and campus groups that work directly with immigrant and refugee community members. Stop by their booths to learn about their work and how you can get involved! Our guests include: One Refugee, Athletics United, Cache Refugee & Immigrant Connection, No More a Stranger Immigrant Advocates, Their Story Is Our Story (USU Chapter), Allies 2 Refugees (USU Chapter), and programs from the USU Center for Community Engagement. Transforming Communities Institute Launch Event

Join us for a special launch event for the Transforming Communities Institute (TCI) on September 15, 2022, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the USU David B. Haight Alumni Center in Logan (555 N Champ Dr, Logan, UT 84321). TCI staff and faculty will share information about our newest initiatives and work from the past year. Additionally, we will honor two special community advocates whose work and dedication in their communities have improved the quality of life for others. Desserts will be served. USU Observatory Public Viewing Night

Astronomy enthusiasts of all ages are invited to the USU Observatory to view the night sky through the observatory's 20-inch reflecting telescope. Admission is free. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please visit observatory.usu.edu PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL on Friday, Sept. 16 for updates, as the gathering will be cancelled in the event of cloudy or inclement weather. The website also provides directions to the observatory and parking information, along with the planned viewing targets.
Blue Rock Run 5K

Join local USU students, alumni, staff and the community for the annual Utah State University 5K Race. Held every year, the Blue Rock Run is a great event that brings the local Tooele community together.
Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic
Special Event
USU's Employee Wellness program is hosting our annual Flu Shot Clinic in collaboration with Bear River Health Department. We will also be offering COVID-19 vaccines for all individuals ages 12 years and older. Both vaccinations are free for benefited employees and their eligible dependents. Registration is required for ALL receiving a vaccination and masks are welcome for all ages 2 years and older. Students can receive Flu or COVID-19 vaccines at the Aggie Wellness Fair on September 20, 2022 at the Aggie Recreation Center. If you are unable to make it to the annual on campus clinic you may receive free flu shots for you and your dependents at any pharmacy within the Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah network.
Science Unwrapped: Lake Effects

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the public outreach program of USU's College of Science. Admission is free. Our Sept. 23 speaker is ecologist and USU alum Ben Abbott, of Brigham Young University, who presents "Lake Effects: Utah Lake Issues Reveal How We View Science and Public Policy" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU Logan campus. Dr. Abbott will speak for about half an hour and then invite questions from the audience. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments and hands-on STEM learning activities provided by student and community groups in the ESLC atrium. Using Utah Lake as an example, ecologist Ben Abbott will discuss ways to encourage productive interaction between scientific knowledge and public policy.

Along with the campus tour, we will have lunch at the Marketplace, enjoy Aggie Ice Cream, and attend the USU vs. UNLV football game. Note: This event is for high school seniors and their parents. Friends who are also seniors should register separately in order to participate.
2022 Utah Agricultural Products Barbecue

The barbecue will feature Utah-grown beef, dairy products, pork, onion rings, salad, lamb, corn, apples, Creamies, and more. The event is sponsored by Utah’s Own. All proceeds, including your donation, go to the Utah Agricultural Leadership Endowment at USU to help train future generations of Utah’s farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness people through scholarship support.
