Nutrition Nightmares: Sorting through Misinformation

Workshop/Training

This will be a 1-hour presentation on sorting through nutrition misinformation that we find on the internet, social media, and other sources. You will learn about common nutrition myths and how to tell if information you find regarding nutrition is true! This presentation is put on by graduate-level Dietetics students. It is also Halloween-themed, so come and join us for an hour of fun!

College life is full of emotional peaks and valleys, but some valleys run deeper and longer than others. Sometimes we can feel stuck and unsure of how to climb back up. This workshop takes a hopeful and creative view of depression as a journey. You will learn to better understand depression, its role in your life, and how it can be a starting point on your personal journey of becoming.

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Bike-Powered Gleaning

Special Event

Help us honor the legacy of Val Christensen by picking apples that would normally go to waste! We'll be helping Cache Community Gleaning by helping with the apple harvest-- but here's the twist-- we'll be riding bikes to and from the property! Everything will be hauled by bikes. The apples we pick will be donated to local food pantries. Meet at Aggie Blue Bikes at 2:45pm with your bike!

Colleges and universities across the state of Utah are sending volunteers on the same day to do good in their communities. Represent USU on this @utah_college_day_of_service as we pick apples that normally would go to waste and donate them to local food pantries! Many hands make light work, and apple-picking is the best way to make new friends, chat with old friends, and enjoy fall in Cache Valley. CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer & First Aid

Workshop/Training

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid course is to instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. This is a blended learning course, you should expect a direct link to the online content to be sent to your email 3 days prior to the course to complete the online learning content prior to the start time of the course. Engaging in conversations across political divides helps us find common ground and moves our country toward a stronger democracy. In this workshop, Utah State Representative Dan Johnson (Republican) and Patrick Belmont (2022 Democratic Candidate) will share their personal experiences engaging in respectful discussion of issues to find mutual understanding and make informed decisions for the greater good. This workshop is co-sponsored by the USU Heravi Peace Institute and the Center for Community Engagement.

Wilderness First Aid Course (WFA)

Workshop/Training

This course is a great introduction to wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. It is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast who wants more than an urban first aid course provides. The emphasis of the class is on recognizing and treating life-threatening traumatic and medical emergencies, common wilderness injuries, bandaging and splinting, and environmental injuries. CPR is included in the curriculum.

Climb to spooky heights this Halloween season with Campus Recreation's Skele-Send Boulder Competition! It's free to compete, simply register at the ARC Climbing Wall. Costumes are encouraged and there will be some awesome prizes! All skill levels are welcome. The first heat starts at 12pm with the finals starting around 7pm.

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Whittier Community Center Halloween Carnival

Help us honor the legacy of Val Christensen by assisting at the oldest community Halloween carnival in the valley! We will be in charge of a glow stick dance area at the Whittier Community Center's annual free carnival for kids. Volunteers in the morning can help set up the stage, and volunteers in the afternoon will hand out glow sticks, manage music, and dance with kids as they come and go from the stage.
