The College of Science’s signature student research presentation event is BACK! Participants have four minutes and four slides to present their BIG IDEA. USU undergraduates and graduate students of all majors are invited to participate in this fun, fast-paced activity before an enthusiastic, supportive audience. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants, judged by on-campus professors. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome. Want to apply to participate in Rapid Fire Research? Tree Planting at Wuda Ogwa

Special Event

Seeking Volunteers for a Tree Planting Event on Saturday, November 4, 2023!

Join our partners with the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation to help plant cottonwoods, willows, dogwoods, and other native plants at the Wuda Ogwa restoration site.

The event will be held from 9am to 3pm just north of Preston, ID (roughly 2 hours from Salt Lake City, UT -or- 40 minutes from Logan, UT).

Participants are encouraged to bring their own shovels, work gloves, lunch, and reusable water bottles. Water and snacks will be provided. We’re looking forward to volunteering and hope that you’ll join us!

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Loaves & Fishes Community Meal

Special Event

Honor the legacy of Val Christensen by pitching in at the Loaves & Fishes Community Meal! Volunteers will be prepping and serving food, bussing tables, washing dishes, and helping set up and take down. Most volunteers are needed on Saturday, but there are a few slots to fill on Friday night for prep. Loaves & Fishes is non-denominational, but takes place inside First Presbyterian Church in Logan because there is a commercial kitchen there. Volunteers are enthusiastically encouraged to grab a plate and sit next to community members that they might not ever meet outside of this free meal.

Why Intermountain Matters

Dr. Farina King (Diné) from the University of Oklahoma, will talk about the history of the Intermountain Indian School, one of the largest federal boarding schools for Native Americans that existed in Brigham City from 1950-1984. Dr. King will discuss why the legacy of Intermountain matters and should be honored, remembered, and recognized today.

Looking for outdoor gear and equipment but don't want to drop a bunch of cash? Visit Outdoor Programs used equipment and gear sale on November 10th from noon-7pm. Get exclusive access as a USU student as the first 3 hours are only open to current USU students - just make sure to have your ID to get in. Gear will include everything from summer gear like bikes and hiking equipment to winter gear like skis and snowshoes. You won't want to miss out! It will be located at the Old OP Shop in the Distribution Center by Maverick Stadium.

Legacy of Val Day of Service: UCC Urban Community Farm

Special Event

Honor the legacy of Val Christensen by working outside on the community farm! The Utah Conservation Corps' Urban Community Farm grows fresh produce to donate to local food pantries. Make sure to wear warm clothes that are comfortable to work outside in, bring closed-toed shoes and maybe a hat. They will provide work gloves, so don't feel that you need to bring any, but you're welcome to. The address: 1483 Canyon Road, Logan UT 84321. It's right by the ropes course on The Island, above Herm's. Please ignore the no trespassing sign as you come in. There is parking after the first driveway and folks can walk up to the farm from there.

Advice for Girls: An All-Women Ski Film

Grab your favorite ski buddies and join us at the Eccles Conference Center Room 216 on November 15th at 7pm for a screening of Advice for Girls! It's free for students and $5 for the public. “Advice for Girls” puts a spotlight on the collective experience of women in the ski industry. The film showcases advice from three generations of women in skiing. Each generation reminds women and girls of all ages that they are worthy of success, allowed to take up space, and are extremely valuable to the ski industry. With an intersectional cast featuring all types of women – women of color, queer women, women with disabilities, and more – the crew hopes that everyone can find someone in the film to connect to.

Turkey Trot 5k

This is a fun run/walk 5k on Friday, November 17th at 4pm. Join us with your family and friends as we take you through our beautiful campus! Registration is $10! Students, log-in with your A# to get your discount price of $5. We will have awards for the top three female and male finishers. All participants will receive a reusable bag and race bib when you register and show up to the race. Also, we are collecting nonperishable food items to be donated to the Family Place! Please help bring items in for this great cause to help out our surrounding community!

USU Physics November Demo Show

Science enthusiasts of all ages are invited to USU Physics annual November Demo Show. This year's theme is "High Voltage and Big Sparks: Electromagnetic Induction.” The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium, (Room ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on campus. All ages are welcome and admission is free. USU’s Department of Physics was inspired to create the annual series by England’s Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, which have been a popular British tradition since 1825. Parking for the event is available in the university parking terraces at 700 East 600 North and 850 East 700 North in Logan. The Eccles Science Learning Center is located north of Old Main and south of the Taggart Student Center. Engineering Extravaganza Junior

Engineering Extravaganza Jr. is designed for 3rd-5th grade students to explore what it means to be an engineer. Students will participate in hands-on learning related to the four engineering departments at USU: Mechanical and Aerospace, Civil and Environmental, Computer and Electrical, and Biological engineering. This activity is for all students, but girls in these grades are especially encouraged to attend!

*Parents of students are required to attend for the entirety of the event.
