USU Symphony Orchestra: Concerto Evening

Enjoy the winners of the annual Student Concerto Competition as they perform favorite works of the solo repertoire: Andrew Jessop (cello), Amelia Guertler (violin), Nick Welch (trombone), Sam Moore (cello), Emma Thackeray (violin). Music by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Elgar, Ewazen, and Gade.

The Business of Music

Led by Dr. Nicole Riner, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music of Flute + Music Entrepreneurship, University of Wyoming “The Business of Music”: Dr. Riner leads the class through the process of developing a unique persona as a freelance artist, creating a press kit and other essential publicity tools, and booking gigs. Lecture/Q&A; for musicians on any instrument.
USU Guitar, Bass & Drums Festival

This year's festival will feature the Reunion Trio with Bruce Forman (guitar), John Clayton (bass) and Jeff Hamilton (drums) along with Denmark-based vocalist and bassist Kristin Korb.
When guitarist Barney Kessel, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Shelly Manne came together in 1956, they called their trio the Poll Winners—fitting, as each musician routinely topped DownBeat’s polls for their respective instrument. The five Poll Winners albums on the legendary jazz label Contemporary Records are classics that set the standard for every guitar trio that followed. Forman, Clayton and Hamilton will revisit the original trio’s musical legacy and create a beautiful homage to these extraordinary artists who inspired jazz audiences around the world.
Known for her hard swinging bass lines and sparkling vocals, Kristin Korb has established herself on the jazz stage as an exceptional artist, commanding both instruments with panache, engaging them simultaneously with an ease comparable to breathing. She will be performing with USU guitar professor Corey Christiansen, who was recently listed as one of the top 200 living jazz guitarists on allaboutjazz.com.
Debussy in Sight and Sound: An Art + Piano Collaboration

Join piano majors and art majors in a collaboration featuring Debussy’s evocative Preludes for Piano, accompanied by original artwork inspired by each piece of music. Concertgoers can participate in a silent auction for the artwork and enjoy an interactive performance highlighting the sights and sounds of French impressionism.

Colores: Clarinet and Piano Recital

A night to explore diverse colors in the clarinet and piano repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries. Music by Debussy, Hindemith, Yi, Harberg, Piazzolla, D'Rivera and Aquino.
Chamber Music Society of Logan: Thalea Quartet
Arts/Entertainment
Thalea String Quartet brings their signature vibrancy and emotional commitment to dynamic performances that reflect the past, present, and the future of the string quartet repertoire. The Quartet has been celebrated for its innovative approach to education and community engagement. Thalea String Quartet is the Doctoral Fellowship String Quartet at the University of Maryland. They won the 2021 Ann Divine Educator Award from the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and were top prize winners at the 2018 Fischoff Competition and 2018 Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition.
Jazz Combos

This concert will feature the USU student jazz combos performing classic tunes from the jazz tradition as well as contemporary tunes from today’s jazz masters.

Crossing Borders II - 21st Century Chamber Music from Diverse Voices

The students of the USU String Program present contemporary chamber music from an exciting new generation of emerging composers. This concert will include two world premieres by composer Jungyoon Wie and Dawn Norfleet, commissioned in partnership with the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music as part of the CREA initiative (Composers for Racial Equality in the Arts).

Jazz Jams

An eagerly awaited tradition around the Music Department is our series of monthly jam sessions, in which a guest artist (or two or three) from outside Cache Valley visits to perform jazz standards with USU students and community members in a relaxed environment. Come and sit in on a tune, or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music. Jam sessions are completely unscripted, so you never know what exactly will happen, but it’s great fun watching musicians perform without a net!
This month’s jazz jam session will begin with a set by the three-bass ensemble UTB3, a trio featuring the finest jazz bassists in the mountain west region, David Baker, Denson Angulo and our very own Utah State University bass professor, Dr. Braun Khan. The UTB3 set will be followed by an open jazz jam session.
