Wuda Ogwa Planting Days

Special Event

Join the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation for a volunteer day, planting willows, cottonwoods, dogwoods, currants, and other native plants at the Wuda Ogwa restoration site.

Please bring a refillable water bottle, work gloves, shovels, and hand augers if you have them. Water and snacks will be provided.

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Planting Day at Wuda Ogwa

Special Event

Join us as we honor the legacy of Val R Christensen and support the Northwestern Band of Shoshone (NWB) in their efforts to restore the ecosystem at Wuda Ogwa (located outside of Preston, ID). We will be planting native plants throughout the property formerly known as the Bear River Massacre Site.

Let us know in the registration form if you'd like a spot in our minibus (only 14 spots available). Lunch will be provided by the NWB. We have some work gloves to lend out. Feel free to bring a digging tool (such as a shovel or a hand auger) if you have them.

After you register, we will send you one more form to fill out that gives information to the NWB.

Rapid Fire Research

Four Minutes • Four Slides • Your Big Idea

Participants will have four minutes and four slides to present their BIG IDEA. USU undergraduates and graduate students from all majors are invited to join this fun, fast-paced activity in front of an enthusiastic and supportive audience. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three participants, selected by faculty judges. Refreshments will be served, and everyone is welcome! Want to apply to participate in Rapid Fire Research? Volunteers will be helping to sort clothing by type and size, and also selecting items for future clothing swaps and pop-up shops at the True Blue Reuse & Repair storage trailer. The trailer is located behind the Student Living Center Dorms, just east of Summit Hall.

Flores Family Community Garden End of Season Service

Special Event

Lend a hand at the Flores Family Community Garden. The work will be muddy and dirty, so dress accordingly! We'll be moving horse panels, filling raised beds, building a greenhouse, cutting logs, and constructing a hay shelter. Bring work gloves, earplugs, and protective eyewear if you have it! We'll have a small collection of work gloves that you can borrow from. Registration necessary as lunch will be provided--see AggiePulse link.

USU Intercollegiate Day of Service - Zootah Zoo Lights Prep

Special Event

On November 9, 2024, Utah State will be participating in Intercollegiate Day of Service by volunteering at Zootah in Logan. We will be helping Zootah set up lights for their annual Zootah Zoo Lights. Make sure to wear warm clothes that are comfortable to work outside in, bring closed-toed shoes and maybe a hat. Come work outside on the community farm! The Utah Conservation Corps' Urban Community Farm grows fresh produce to donate to local food pantries. Science Unwrapped - A.I. is an Astounding Innovation, But Can We Trust It?

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the public STEM outreach program of USU's College of Science. Data scientist John Lawson, research assistant professor in USU's Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Bingham Research Center at USU Uintah Basin, presents "A.I. is an Astounding Innovation, but Can We Trust It?" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU campus, Logan. Admission is free. Refreshments and hands-on learning activities follow Dr. Lawson's talk. Talk Description: Artificial intelligence – AI – captures our imaginations with its rocketing innovation and surging accessibility. AI-generated text, video, images and voices seem like magic, yet can also be a wolf in sheep’s clothing with incorrect and misleading information. How do we harness this amazing tool, while curbing potential harm? Data scientist John Lawson, who uses AI to predict weather hazards, explores what it means, and the diverse skills, knowledge and precautions needed, to create trustworthy AI. Dr. Lawson's talk is part of Science Unwrapped's Fall 2024 "Joining Forces" series.

USU Physics November Demo Show

Special Event

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to the 2024 USU Physics November Demo Show. This year's theme is "The Physics of Phase Transitions." Admission is free! USU physicist James Coburn will offer exciting demonstrations of freezing, boiling, melting and condensing. Demos will include making liquid air, making solid air, crushing a 55-gallon drum and making an ice bomb! USU's Department of Physics is pleased to offer this super-fun learning event to the Cache Valley community.
