Guitar Ensembles

This year’s guitar ensemble concert will present an eclectic blend of music across four ensembles: The Acoustic Guitar Ensemble, two Electric Guitar Ensembles, and the Graduate Research Guitar Ensemble. Musical genres will range from classical to jazz and rock and some things in between. This year’s concert will also showcase guest artist and drum extraordinaire, Steve Barnes.

One of the highlights of the bel canto repertoire with its sublime music and humorous plot, Donizetti’s comic opera L'elisir d'amore follows the attempts of the hapless Nemorino who relies on a fake love potion to win the beautiful Adina's hand in marriage. Performed by USU voice and orchestra students. Sung in English for maximal humoral effect!

Prospero uses magic to conjure a storm and torment the survivors of a shipwreck, including the King of Naples and Prospero’s treacherous brother, Antonio. Prospero’s slave, Caliban, plots to rid himself of his master, but is thwarted by Prospero’s spirit-servant Ariel. The King’s young son Ferdinand, thought to be dead, falls in love with Prospero’s daughter Miranda. Come experience the intrigue, the magic, and see for yourself how all will resolve.
