Securing External Grants

Inclusive Excellence supports faculty and staff in efforts to secure external funding through federal and state government agencies, private foundations, fellowships, and residencies. We specifically work with primary investigators and research teams to help them obtain grants that require statements or programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural competency, inclusive excellence, and/or mentoring historically underrepresented or minoritized students.

Why Work with Inclusive Excellence?

Many federal government agencies and private foundations require primary investigators and research teams to highlight how their work advances diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural competency, and/or inclusive excellence.

The National Science Foundation (NSF), for instance, tasks researchers with explaining the broader impacts of their scholarship and programs. The NSF explains broader impacts as “the potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes.”

One broader impact for an NSF grant application could include supporting women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields in Utah, which ranks last in the nation in STEM employment for women. This broader impact would support the NSF’s dedication to inclusion, societal well-being, STEM education, the STEM workforce, and economic competitiveness.

Inclusive Excellence works with primary investigators and research teams to develop these parts of their grant applications and to help faculty and staff secure the external support to fund their research and academic programs.
